ONE MINUTE WITH…. AMBER DARBY

Amber gained a love of surfing on the beaches of Costa Rica, got into a bit of hot water because of an Adam Ant concert, and has a weakness for peppermint cookie truffles. As an Account Executive, she strives to bring a unique experience to her clients, which genuinely leaves them with a lasting impression.

What is your role at CLE?

Account Executive.

What is one thing you cannot resist?

The urge to cry when I hear or witness something really amazing. And every holiday season, I also can’t resist the Lindor’s seasonal Peppermint Cookie truffles…thank goodness they are only available around the holiday season!

What is your greatest fear?

I am afraid that being afraid will keep me from acting on things I really want to do.

Where is your favorite place to be?

I really love to travel, but at the end of every trip, I am very excited to come home. Des Moines is probably my favorite place to be. It is a fun city that always has something going on. It is an easy place to live and is full of incredible people!

Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?

Costa Rica. Everything is beautiful in Costa Rica, the mountains, the beaches, the jungle, the culture. I also love that they have no military and remain peaceful while surrounded by conflict. I learned to surf there, which I discovered is one of my favorite sports ever. I even bought my own stand-up paddleboard when I got home so I could experience the feeling of “walking on water” whenever I wanted.

What was your first music concert?

Adam Ant with the Romantics at the Des Moines Civic Center when I was thirteen. It was Adam Ant’s Strip Tour, and my mom heard about the plexiglass pool he brought out on stage, so I had to do some fast talking to get my mom to allow me to go. I guess she was right to worry because, as it happened, I got kicked out of the show at the end. Then the following week, I got kicked out of gym class for wearing the concert T-shirt. I am pretty sure those were the only times I ever got kicked out of anything… thanks for the show and subsequent life experiences, Adam Ant!

What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?

Working at a kiosk stuffing gifts into huge balloons at Southridge Mall. I wonder why you don’t see that fun gift-wrapping idea around anymore.

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t working for CLE?

Any job where I work directly with clients. If not at CLE, I think it would be fun to work at an ad agency. I was the kid that knew every jingle and slogan of every product growing up. The strategy of building a community surrounding a company or product is fascinating. Being creative, bringing people together surrounding a common interest, and helping companies build their brand is what I like to do.

What are three words you would use to describe CLE?

Knowledgeable, Trustworthy, and Creative.

What is your super skill?

Oh, if only it was the ability to fly, but since that isn’t an option, my super skill is empathy. I can put myself in other people’s shoes, which helps me understand where they are coming from. This skill helps me grow better relationships, be more in tune with people around me, and bring better solutions to the table.

What are one or two items on your Bucket List?

I would love to start a podcast. I am an avid listener to Podcasts and have a couple of ideas I would love to explore more in-depth on that platform. I also want to go to Germany and explore castles – majestic!

In your opinion, what are two things that make an incredible production?
  1. Offering something totally unique that attendees can’t possibly forget.
  2. The use of sound, lighting, and visual effects to set an environment that connects attendees that elicits emotions.

Have an event coming up?
